Our Year 11 students were inspired by guest speakers from Australia’s largest aluminium smelter, Tomago Aluminium this week. Five professionals gave up their time to share the variety of roles and pathways that can be found in an Engineering career.
The production process, facilities and logistics of the smelter were presented, as well as sustainable initiatives and targets required in this energy-dependent industry.
Thank you to the following Tomago staff for giving your time, wisdom and sharing your experience with our students:
· Stacey Sleeman – CFO
· Michelle Whyte (NGS Alumnus Class of 1995) – Continuous Improvement Superintendent and Chemical Engineer
· Sandy Quirino – Continuous Improvement Analyst and Chemical Engineer
· Lily Wallis – Carbon Supervisor and Process Engineer
· Melissa Wyllie – Electrolysis Process Engineer
· Tom Connell – Process Superintendent
This type of Deep Learning provides an excellent opportunity for our students to hear from industry professionals about real world application of what they are learning in class and also gives them a glimpse of the possibilities of career pathways post school.
